Liquid Color Masterbatch: Less Usage, Faster Changeovers, More Stable Color

Liquid color masterbatch is a liquid‑form plastic colorant. Pigments are pre‑dispersed in a liquid carrier, and during use the material is injected directly into an injection molding machine or extruder via a metering pump. Compared with solid color masterbatch, York liquid color masterbatch requires only one‑fourth to one‑third the amount, simplifies color changeover, and provides higher color stability.

Less Usage

Solid color masterbatch typically needs to be added at 2%–4% to achieve the required color depth. York liquid color masterbatch works at just 0.03%–1.5%. Lower usage means lower material cost, fewer foreign substances introduced into the base resin, and better mechanical properties as well as higher recycling purity.

Faster Changeovers

Changing colors with solid masterbatch – especially switching from black to white – requires removing the hopper, repeatedly purging the screw with cleaning compound, and running scrap parts until the color is correct. With York liquid color masterbatch, you simply turn off the current color pump, clear the residual color from the screw, and then turn on the new color pump. For workshops that change colors daily, this dramatically improves production efficiency.

More Stable Color

Solid color masterbatch relies on the shear force of the screw to “extrude” the pigment out of the carrier. A slight change in screw speed, back pressure, or temperature alters the amount of pigment released, making the color unstable. The pigments in York liquid color masterbatch are already uniformly blended in the liquid carrier before use, so they do not depend on screw shear. As long as the metering pump delivers a steady flow, the color remains consistent. This difference is especially noticeable in demanding applications such as automotive interior parts and cosmetic packaging, where strict color difference requirements apply.

Coloring and Functionality in One Step

The liquid carrier of York liquid color masterbatch is compatible with a variety of functional additives. UV stabilizers, high‑barrier additives, and other performance aids can be added simultaneously. For example, in PET preforms, using liquid color masterbatch together with UV stabilizers not only adds color but also improves the packaging’s UV resistance and extends shelf life.

Who Uses It and Where

York New Materials has been focusing on liquid color masterbatch since 2008 and is the earliest company in China dedicated to this field. York liquid color masterbatch can be applied to PET, PP, ABS, PC, PA, TPU, and other base resins, and is available in five series: color, white, black, pearl, and functional.

Application scenarios include electronic products, cosmetic packaging, home appliance panels, and food & beverage containers. York offers free on‑site sampling – using the customer’s own machine to run the customer’s own product, with color and performance data verified on the spot.
